Conceived and published in April 1865 by Paulist Fathers’ founder Rev. Isaac Thomas Hecker, this premier magazine was published by Paulist Press for 130 years as print journal by subscription but now it is being revived as an online journal open to all interested individuals. Celebrating 140 years of excellence in Catholic publishing, Paulist Press will present The Catholic World on the internet available worldwide to individuals of all cultures and denominations, something that Hecker would endorse with great enthusiasm. The specific goal of The Catholic World, to promote religious dialogue with North American culture has not changed, however, with its new look and energetic objectives, greater emphasis will focus on ways to awaken the growing number of American Catholics to issues of the day.
At the Intersection of Faith and Culture, internet meeting place of values and voices, The Catholic World will provide background and commentary in the spirit of Father Hecker and The Paulists to build a more Catholic America.
